A Little Bit About A-Star

A-Star Staffing is an independent, single office staffing company located in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. Diana Barnes established A-Star in 1999 after more than twenty years in the staffing business. She recognized the need for a ‘quality’ approach to personnel services; the premise on which A-Star was founded. The company was an instant success with more than one million dollars in sales in the first six months of operation. Since inception, A-Star has logged more than 2.7 million work hours on behalf of its clients.

In addition to a passion for quality, Diana strongly believes in the importance of establishing long term relationships with client companies. “Some of my clients have been with me for more than twenty five years”, she says. “More than any other single factor, word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients have contributed to our growth.”

Staffing Options

Temporary
Relieve temporary staffing shortages due to seasonal demand, vacation, illness or special projects by using temporary employees.  Temporary positions are billed at an hourly rate.  Payroll taxes and workers compensation insurance are included in the hourly rate.

Temp-To-Hire
Our Temp-To-Hire option gives you a chance to evaluate potential employees prior to making an offer of employment. The employee remains on A-Star's payroll until you are ready to make an offer.   An employee who has satisfied the 'conversion period' may be converted to your payroll at no additional charge.

Direct Hire Placement
Our Direct Hire option allows you to acquire qualified personnel for immediate hire.  We handle the recruiting process, conduct interviews, manage background investigations and skills testing. Direct Hire services are usually billed as a percentage of starting annual salary.


 

Our Screening Procedures

The Application Process
Applicants are required to provide written information about work history, skills, educational background and references.   Each applicant is then interviewed by one of our staffing managers to gain greater insight into their 'soft skills' (personality traits, social graces, ability with languages, friendliness and ability to fit into the workplace culture).

Applicant Testing
A-Star applicants are tested using a combination of proprietary and commercial grade skills tests.

Background Investigations
We go the 'extra mile' to verify professional references.  Additionally, we have an established relationship with several screening agencies to perform criminal background checks, social security checks and educational verifications as requested by the Client.  Drug Screening services are also available upon request (note: charges for Investigative  and Drug Screening services are billed to the Client at our cost).


 

How We Charge for Our Services

PREPAYMENT TERMS
In most cases we require advance payment for our services.  We will provide a written estimate of weekly charges and then require advance payment as follows:

·         Payment by PayPal:   2 weeks advance payment or payment
in full if services are not expected to exceed two weeks.

·         Payment by Check:  4 weeks advance payment or payment
in full if services are not expected to exceed four weeks.

CREDIT TERMS

We are happy to extend credit when
creditworthiness can be confirmed!


We will provide you with a Credit Application upon request.   The criteria we use to make a credit decision include the following:

·         Size of company

·         Length of time in business

·         Ability to procure credit information (a DUNS number is often helpful)

·         Payment history with other vendors

·         Bankruptcies,  Liens,  Judgments filed,  Accounts referred for collection

·         A favorable Credit Ranking Score by the credit rating agencies

Our terms are DUE ON RECEIPT of invoice;
delinquent beyond thirty days.
